Virgin and Child by Jacob Epstein, 1953
Cavendish Square, London, a large lead sculpture on the bridge over Dean's Mews.
A commission after war damage to the houses owned by the Sisters of the Society of the Holy Child. The architect Louis Osman planned a sculpture for the bridge and Epstein was said to be delighted with the commission. It is cast in lead as Osman did not want any green stain from bronze on the Portland stone.
(One of Gene's favourite religious sculptures)
