Our Lady of Victories, did she favour Light Blues?

The Chapel of Our Lady of Victories
housed in the church of the Holy Name,
where Roberto Mancini prayed on the
day of his team’s crucial victory to
secure the Premiership title.
Catholic soccer manager Roberto Mancini has made no secret that he prays to the Mother of God. Six weeks ago the Manchester City coach took himself on pilgrimage to Medjugorje, the world famous site of claimed apparitions of the Virgin Mary.

And yesterday afternoon it seemed as if the 46-year-old Italian had been blessed with an astonishing miracle in his life and that of his team when they clinched the Premiership title with two crucial goals in injury time against Queens Park Rangers, to deny rivals Manchester United of retaining it’s title.

It is reported that Mancini, accompanied by two of his players, had attended Mass early that morning at the Holy Name of Jesus church, Manchester.

Did the trio pray for success on the day? Who is to say?

But what is significant is that the church on Oxford Street also houses a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Victories!

The Manchester City football club was founded in 1880 as a church team named St Mark’s. It’s jersey emblem was a Maltese Cross.
