Detterling let me remind you of the evening of Friday 16th December 2016 and that never to be forgotten leaving do in the Good Yarn:
I come to the front doors and everything is in darkness except for the Christmas lights twinkling on the windowsills. I come through the doors. Suddenly all the lights go on and I am greeted by a huge cheer and a sea of smiling faces from the jam-packed pub. Thunderous applause follows. The love, respect and esteem in which I am held is palpable.
Does that sound at all like the man you describe ?

This was of course so different from your send off from teaching Detterling. Methinks that your valediction consisted of a few insincere words from the Head and a couple of plates of stale triangular sandwiches in the staffroom.

Yes, I wasn't there of course but I remember all the excitement over that Good Yarn celebration night.
ReplyDeleteAnd while writing Gene let me say how much I love that photo of Lucretia and Ffiona on the beach.

Gene how I would love to have been in the Good Yarn that night. Yes indeed a measure of the love, respect and esteem in which you were held. A wonderful teacher.
ReplyDeleteDetterling's send off was no doubt as you have described it.
