I bristle when I hear anyone use the word charisma. It is so meaningless. About thirty-five years ago I recall listening to a young left wing lady gushing about a Billy Bragg concert she had been to. She said he had such charisma. My God! Billy Bragg has all the charisma of a wet Thursday afternoon in Ruislip.
Please everyone, stop using that meaningless word charisma.

Gene - "A Genuine Christian Believer" is NOT Detterling. He or she is who he or she purports to be - someone who has followed this blog for a while and has been disgusted by it. I was both surprised and delighted not only by the post, but also that you reacted in the way that you did - thick as well as nasty.
DeleteIf you had any sensitivity to language at all, you would have noticed immediately that AGCB's semantics and lexical fields differ decisively from Detterling's. As you have the linguistic sensibilities of a a cocker spaniel, you will have missed this completely.
No matter how often you dismiss this idea, you are in error.

I think it was Giles Coren who observed that people who use the term “methinks” in their lexis are invariably wankers - with you a literal and metaphorical case in point. And your shameless parroting of Detterling’s phrase “self-basting pietism” is a valuable clue to your poverty stricken literary ability and your second rate, second hand intelligence.
