Maybe the greatest achievement of Pope Benedict XVI R.I.P. was how, without lifting a finger or saying a word, he torpedoed out of existence the New Atheists and their 'self-basting pietism' ...

  1. He did no such thing - atheism is flourishing and growing, not least because of the actions of Joseph Ratzinger, whose bishopric, under his leadership, became safe place for priests who enjoyed having sex with children.

  2. He most certainly did. The phenomenon of New Atheism - AND ITS OUTLANDISH BOAST TO HAVE THE POPE ARRESTED - never recovered from being blasted aside at Benedict's visit to Britain in 2010.

Re your comments about Fr Faley - if I were in his shoes I would pithily and succinctly let you know that the Church of England is f**ked.

I shall leave you to languish in your self-basting pietism.

    1. How long will it be before you claim that phrase as your own, I wonder. And no amount of bluster, or your ridiculous forged posts from Richard Dawkins, can elide the fact that, as the 2021 census revealed, less than half of the population (46.2%, 27.5 million people) reported their religion described themselves as “Christian”, a 13.1 percentage point decrease from 59.3% (33.3 million) in 2011. And as a matter of fact Mgr Faley has done a lot to further oecumenical links with all the local churches, and he would find your nastiness and your pietism repellent. I don't know which is worse - the coarse ignorance of "fucked", or the pearl clutching winsomeness of "f*cked". You are an epitome of nasty hypocrisy, and I am thoroughly enjoying wrecking your blog.

  3. As far as the Cof E is concerned both you Detters and I know that one day it will conduct gay marriages in C of E churches. Perhaps the C of E should heed Our Lord's words to St Catherine of Sienna on homosexuality:

St. Catherine of Siena on homosexuality
St. Catherine relays words of Our Lord, about the vice against nature, which contaminated part of the clergy in her time. Referring to sacred ministers, He said: "They not only fail from resisting this frailty [of fallen human nature]…but do even worse as they commit the cursed sin against nature. Like the blind and stupid having dimmed the light of the understanding, they do not recognize the disease and misery in which they find themselves. For this not only causes Me nausea, but displeases even the demons themselves, whom these miserable creatures have chosen as their lords. For Me, this sin against nature is so abominable that , for it alone, five cities were submersed, by virtue of the judgment of My Divine Justice, which could no longer bear them…It is disagreeable to the demon, not because evil displeases them and they find pleasure in good, but because their nature is angelic and thus is repulsed upon seeing such an enormous sin being committed. It is true that it is the demons who hits the sinner with the poisoned arrow of lust, but when a man carries out such a sinful act, the demons leaves."
