Mancini’s men clinch title in dramatic fashion

Just six weeks ago Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was enjoying the peace and tranquility of a pilgrimage at Medjugorje. This afternoon the 47-year-old faced the toughest challenge in his soccer career when his team needed to win its final game of the season to clinch the English Premiership title, a feat the club had not achieved since 1968.

The game started well with Manchester City taking a first-half lead against London opponents Queens Park Rangers, but then disaster struck when the visitors equalised shortly after the break. Reduced to 10 men QPR increased their advantage against the run of play and with full-time looming it seemed that Macini’s hopes would not be fulfilled.

However, the game took a dramatic turn in injury time when City equalised to make the score 2-2, but a win was still needed to clinch the title, and then with time running out and the title seeming looking as if it would go to city rivals Manchester United, Manchester City clinched the victory and the Premiership with a third goal in the dying seconds of the game.

Mancini... Medjugorje can change the world

Roberto Mancini, the Manchester City manager who has spent the past two days on pilgrimage at Medjugorje, spoke today about his visit.

Mancini said he felt very good in Medjugorje and had wanted to come for many years. Now he had the opportunity and he came to rest. He explained that it was a priest from Genoa who first spoke to him 25 years ago about Medjugorje. Mancini also mentioned the witness of Paolo Brosio, the Italian sports journalist who had experienced a powerful conversion at Medjugorje.

Mancini then spoke about his own faith and said, “Faith has helped me a lot, I’m not talking about my career but my personal life. Our Lady and the Lord has more important work to see to than my job in football.

“Here in Medjugorje you can recharge your batteries, the people are wonderful and if everyone was like this the world would be a better place.”

The 47-year-old Italian concluded, “Millions of people come here, and I will come again. I believe more and more that Medjugorje will change the world for the better.”
